Oxyemetholone is a powerful Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) derived anabolic steroid commonly sold under the popular trade name Anadrol. Developed to treat severe muscle wasting diseases, this is one of the premier mass building steroids on the market and has been since the 1960’s. A powerful mass builder, a trait most DHT based steroids do not carry, Oxymetholone as you may have guessed is perfect for off-season bulking cycles, but it has a cutting use as well, but in either case, it is largely misunderstood. A lot of the confusion surrounding this hormone stems from internet myth and legend, and with a quick glance we’ll set the truth free.
Oxymetholone & Mass:
If you’re looking to grow and you want to grow fast, very few steroids can provide buildups in mass as profoundly and as rapidly as the Oxymetholone hormone. To gain such mass, caloric intake must match the desired end; if you do not eat you’re not going to grow. It is a common misconception outside the performance realm that anabolic steroids provide some sort of mystical power, but we assure you, they do not. The rules of nutrition do not change when supplementing with Oxymetholone or any anabolic steroid. At any rate, with a proper intake of food individuals can easily gain as much as 20lbs in a mere 3-4 weeks, with some gaining as much as 30lbs! Of course, some of this weight will be water retention; although Oxymetholone does not aromatize it does carry estrogenic traits. Even so, with the use of an Aromatase Inhibitor and a diet that is clean and not over the top with carbohydrates, excess water retention can be controlled.
While mass is the primary trait of Oxymetholone, this is a steroid that can dramatically increase strength; even without a caloric surplus strength can go up. No, you shouldn’t expect your strength to really go up if you’re in a caloric deficit, but even at a maintenance level you’ll be able to increase strength through maximum caloric use. This increase in strength can be very useful for off-season training; strength and mass do not go hand-in-hand, but with an increase in strength, you’ll be able to push a little harder.
Beyond strength, a secondary characteristic of Oxymetholone can be seen during a cutting cycle. Often viewed as an off-season bulking steroid only, there are many competitive bodybuilders who supplement with the hormone during contest preparation. By supplementing with Oxymetholone the final few weeks before a show, the bodybuilder is enabled with the ability to maximize his carb up plan and truly fill out. Put simply, supplemental use at this period will blow the competitor up. While use can be very beneficial during this period, it comes with a stern warning. If you have never supplemented with Oxymetholone before, you will not want to try it your first time right before a show. Further, if you have a difficult time controlling water retention you will not want to supplement with Oxymetholone during this period. Before you try this little trick of the trade, you’ll need to have an understanding of how the hormone affects you, and most importantly you’ll need to have a firm grasp on the final week water related protocol. In any case, this can be a useful tool, and while beneficial it is one most bodybuilders will not need.
Of course, while it can be an extraordinarily beneficial steroid, Oxymetholone has a few downsides. First and foremost, this is an oral steroid that like most oral steroids belongs to the C17-aa family. As a C17-aa anabolic steroid, it is toxic to the liver, but it is one of the most hepatic steroids of all. Use of Oxymetholone should for absolutely no reason ever extend past 6 weeks of continuous use, with many being well-served capping use off at the 4 week mark. If you decide to supplement with this steroid, you are encouraged to avoid all activity that causes undue stress to the liver such as alcohol consumption. Further, avoiding over the counter medications where possible will be beneficial, as many over the counter medications are far more hepatic in nature. If you can do these things, while liver enzyme values will increase with Oxymetholone use, they will return to normal shortly after use is discontinued.
Beyond its hepatic nature, other possible side-effects include Gynecomastia, excess water retention, and high blood pressure most notably; in-fact, this steroid is notorious regarding blood pressure. If you supplement with this steroid, you must possess a healthy blood pressure before supplementation begins. If you already have high blood pressure, this steroid is not for you; in-fact, there’s probably not a steroid for you. Regardless, if you take care of yourself, live a life that is blood pressure friendly and supplement responsibly, you will in most cases be fine. As for Gynecomastia and water retention, the use of an Aromatase Inhibitor will protect you.
